Lettuce Have A Cook Off
It’s probably not a big deal for most people reading this but we now have a lettuce farm close by. Lettuce and a few vegetables are hard to come by around here most of the time. When they make tacos they put cabbage in place of lettuce. It’s actually not bad. Getting a garden salad is tough without lettuce though. At this lettuce farm you pick the lettuce you want yourself and then you pay for what you picked. I think Mango will have lettuce this Wednesday so I have already ordered a grilled chicken salad for that day. If it turns out that he does not have the lettuce then I’ll just get an order of nachos. He’s been doing a much better job of making them recently.
This entry will be posting tomorrow around 9:00 am. Titing & Nening won’t be back yet. Most likely they will be back closer to 2:00 pm. Nening said something about coming back early but normally when someone goes to Southern Leyte they leave around 4:00 am and it is about a 9 hour drive. With the restroom breaks and stopping to eat, it usually ends up between 2 and 3 pm before they arrive back in Calbayog. We’re trying to not leave too big of a mess for Nening to clean.
It’s getting closer to July 4th and we are supposed to be having a chili tasting contest at Mango. I have not been practicing. I guess I should put a reminder in the group about the contest. Maybe an entry fee of P250? I’m also thinking of maybe having the judges pay P50 to be judges, but get to try all the chili. Maybe 40%, 20% and 10% for the first 3 places and the other 30% to our new Expat Fund that we want to get started.
I guess I should explain about that Expat Fund. We are thinking about starting one, with a small donation every month (whatever you want to donate). The purpose of the fund is to help fellow expats when they are in dire need. It does happen because, despite what a lot of Filipinos think, all expats are not rich. We would have either a committee or group meetings to determine who and when someone needs that money. It’s usually only a temporary thing when money is needed. The Fund is in the very early beginning stages now so things have not been worked out yet. Actually the bank account and the fact that the money should be paid back to the fund as soon as possible are the only things that have been worked out already. I’ll keep you in touch about that. I wonder if other expat groups around the world have such a fund?
Oh great! My phone is dead. I’ve had it for a very long time and really did not expect it to last for the first 2 years. It actually lasted about 9 years. So I guess I should be happy and not surprised. It’s one of those Huawei phones that you can’t change the battery. I’ve been planning to get another one but have been putting it off because I don’t make enough money to do many larger things at one time. I’ve had a phone picked out that I wanted to get. Lately though I’ve been thinking if I have to get a new phone I should get one locally. That way if there is a problem I can take care of it more easily. The phone I was thinking of is a Realme 7I 8GB + 128GB 4G/LTE-A Snapdragon 662 5000Mah. The cost on Shopee is P9990, plus shipping (P85). That’s quite a bit for me, for a phone that I really do not use very much. Of course they do come in handy at times. Most likely since this phone is a bit smaller than the curren tone I have, I would carry it a little bit more (if I can get into that habit). There are plenty of phone listed on Shopee and Lazada for 3k, 2k and even 1k. Those phones I don’t trust at all. Too many people trying to rip you off.
Leftover spaghetti for supper tonight. I already ate it with 2 jalapenos and 1 liter of water. I think I still have one more container of spaghetti, 2 more chicken vegetable soups and 1 pinto bean. The soups are my favorite and Nening makes it a couple of times per month and then freezes it so I can eat them during the month. I need to stay away from any snacks this evening. This time of night is my most vulnerable time. I get bored while on the computer and I start looking for more to eat. Not really because I’m hungry but because it’s something to do. If I watch a couple of good movies I usually will not eat so I’ll be looking for those movies pretty soon.
That’s enough typing for this evening. I’ll figure out a title for this post and then schedule it for tomorrow morning, as I mentioned earlier. It’s good to be back typing and I hope people are reading. Let me know in the comments if you are here and if you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them.
