It’s now 1:00 am. I was sleeping, but my wife decided it’s time to watch tv. She’s a little bit deaf and she has to turn the sound up so loud I cannot go back to sleep. This happens often. Now that she knows I’m on the computer she turns the sound up even louder. She will not admit that she is going deaf even though half the time you talk to her she says, “What?”. I’m going to get her to a doctor to get that hearing checked somehow. Maybe tell her I’m going to get my hearing checked and she can get hers done for free, although I don’t know of such a place, but it doesn’t matter if I am paying for it or not, as long as she gets her hearing checked. There’s got to be more to talk about than just my wife’s hearing. I’ll try to avoid that subject for the rest of this post.
Tomorrow, check that, today is Wednesday. So that means Expat Day at Mango Lounge. I have not ordered any food for today. On Wednesdays we preorder the food because there are so many orders, and they like to get all their ducks lined up before they start shooting. I was thinking of getting the Extreme Big Boy, which is a double hamburger, with fries (although I usually get pico de gallo instead) for only P300 (about $5.55 at the current exchange rate). I was talking with my son via Messenger, and he was telling me that a burger, fries and a drink back there in Texas costs anywhere between $12 and $18 depending on where you go. If I added a Coca-Cola to my order here, it would still come out to less than US$6, at an exchange rate of 54.
Also, today I will be picking up our social security money. I still have a few things I need to pay, and I need to try to save money, somehow. Our house lady is still waiting on her Christmas bonus (Christmas is also her birthday) and for my wife’s birthday (January 1st), I told her I would get one of her necklaces. I keep trying to save money for 2 things. The most important thing is for an airline ticket to see my parents (mom 85 and dad 88 (soon to be 89)). It just never works out. The money always gets spent somehow. This is a new year so I’m going to make an extra, extra effort to get that money saved. The other thing is to buy a new stove. Only 2 of the 4 burners work on the one we have, plus it is so small (Filipino size). I saw a very nice looking, larger stove at one of the new stores. The price is P38k (just over $700) the last time I checked. We also need a new commode, and we would like to have a microwave (although we have lived for over 13.5 years without one).
We need some 2024 calendars. When I go pick up our social security money I’ll see if they have any there. That’s where we usually get the mid-size calendars. The larger ones we go by one of the hardware stores and they usually have them. If I can’t find any, I’ll order some online through Lazada or Shopee.
It’s 1:35 am now. My wife just informed me that she will turn off the tv if I’m ready for bed. She does this often also. After a while and after I get laid down, she will say that she cannot go to sleep and will turn the tv back on. However, I guess I’ll go to bed for now and I’ll finish this up later when I get up for good for the day.
I told you. She didn’t even make it an hour. The tv was back on at 2:30. After I complained, she did turn it down enough that I could get to sleep.
Yesterday and again this morning we had power outages. They are the ones that only last a minute or two, but still, it disrupts things. Like right now my internet is down, and I cannot save this post. I will have to wait until it comes back up (hopefully it will) before I can save and put this out for y’all to read.
Okay, now I’m going to just play a game on the computer until Nening comes to help me with my compression socks. Unless the pedicure lady is coming by today, then we’ll put those socks on later. My toe nails are starting to trip people as they walk by me.
I hope you enjoyed reading my latest rant.
