(Juvic and Samantha)
Today I can finally let out a secret that I’ve been keeping for about a month. Why? Because it is no longer a secret. My Filipino niece Juvic and her daughter Samantha are visiting here from Australia. They will be here for 2 weeks. It seems that Samantha was missing Jollibee’s quite a bit so that is where they went when they arrived. Her sister, Grace, and I were the only 2 that knew they would be arriving. We were sworn to secrecy. So, when they arrived, they went to Jollibee’s and Grace brought their parents to Jollibee’s, unknowing that they would be meeting their daughter and granddaughter. It would have been nice to be there to see their faces.
After that, they came to the house, and I went in to get my wife to come out. She didn’t want to come out because she was watching a tv show that she really likes and didn’t want to be disturbed. I got her to go out anyway. I did get to see her face and it was utter surprise. It took her a couple of seconds to figure out who they were. Samantha, only in the 5th grade, is so much taller than my wife now. We were already living here in the Philippines when Samantha was born and now she is a tall young lady.
Before she left Australia, Juvic asked me if I wanted anything. The only thing I could think of at the time was corn nuts, but they don’t have corn nuts in Australia. Then I thought of baloney (bologna). She didn’t know what I was talking about at first but figured out in her neck of the woods they call it “Devon”. She showed me a picture and it looks right. I told her, yeah, that and some Swiss cheese. She brought me what looks to be a half roll of “Devon”. I’ll have to unwrap it from the meat wrapping paper tomorrow. She also brought me a package of, I think, 8 slices of Swiss cheese. I think I will be having a fried Devon and cheese sandwich (or 2) for breakfast in the morning. Maybe along with a cup of some instant coffee she brought. I’m not into instant coffee, but I’ll give it a try.
She brought my wife some chocolate cookies (ones I have not seen here), some malted milk balls (not normally here), 4 salami sticks (not here) and some White Shoulders perfume. The malted milk balls are open, so I’ll have to be on alert and try to stay away from them. She didn’t like the salami sticks, so they are now in my computer desk drawer. I like them.
I did go walking this morning. I almost talked myself out of it again, but went ahead and did it. I walked quite a ways, supposedly more than a mile. I saw a friend, David George, while walking. He and his girlfriend pulled next to me on their motorcycle. It gave me a few minutes to rest. I almost gave up walking right before and right after that face-to-face meeting. Not because of them but because I was so tired. But I didn’t stop. I’m going to load a step counter on my phone and take it along to see how far of a walk I actually go on.
There, it’s loaded. I never used one before, but I’ll see if I can make this one roll. I’m falling asleep here and it’s only 6:37 pm. I’m going to have to lay down for a bit.
Salamat Y’all
