[smartads] On Friday the 26th I was up at 0744. I knew it was going to be a slow day from the beginning because I didn’t want to do anything. As it turned out, I was right. It was a very, very slow day. We didn’t even do very well with the BBQ on Friday like we normally do on weekends. We made less than P500 for the entire night. That’s pretty sad.
I have recently been putting the trivia or quizzes at the beginning of the post, but I think I like it better at the end. That’s what I’m going to start doing, putting them at the end. Unless of course there are quite a few of y’all that would rather have it at the beginning.
Lita told me on Friday that we would have a scheduled brownout on Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 4pm. So naturally when I got ready to go to bed I turned my computer off. I don’t need any complications with my computer if I can help it.
Like I said, it was a boring day, so for Friday the only thing I have left to talk about is to share my fantasy football results for week 11 of the NFL. As you may remember, I have 58 teams, which it turns out is too many for me. For my win/loss last weekend it was: 43 wins and 15 losses. I have 1 team that finally won it’s first game of the year. In fact I believe I have 2 teams that are now at 1-10, but on the positive side, I also have at least 2 teams at 10-1.

This lovely Saturday morning I was up at 0713 and sure enough when I woke up it was a brownout. I so do not enjoy those long brownouts when it’s so humid outside. Okay so pay close attention to this next series of events. Around about 0730, Lita had me doing a lot of things all at one time. I needed to sweep the floor in the computer room, bring her 6 bottles each of Pepsi and Mountain Dew, turn the light off above the truck, carry the empty soda cases outside, get Precious her ice candy and make my own breakfast. That’s a lot of things to do at one time, but did anyone notice something weird about those series of events? I’ll let it soak it a little while and tell you later on in the post.
For breakfast this morning I had corn flakes again. I finished off the box. Well actually I threw the box away yesterday. The cereal was in the box liner which was inside a large, gallon sized zip lock bag (Jaclyn). We still have 1 box of pancake mix left, so I’ll probably end up making that tomorrow. I wanted to buy more at JustMar, but there was only 1 box left and when I shook the box it sounded like it was all clumped together, so I passed on buying that one. When I make the pancakes tomorrow, I think I will make the small ones like I did last time, that turned out pretty well.
I did my weigh in this morning. It seems that what happen shouldn’t happen as many times as it has to me. Last week I weighed 130.1 kilos and that is exactly what I weighed this week too. This scale weighs within 5/100 of a kilogram, so it just doesn’t seem possible that I weigh the same so much. Seems like it would be .05 more or less sometimes, but it doesn’t. I know the scale is working probably because others use it and they say that it is accurate.

I got a newer picture of Casandra today. I will be sure to post that today or tomorrow. The first picture I got of her looks like she is mad, but the second one turned out pretty good. While I had the camera, I tried to get another picture of Chatty, but whenever I had a good shot, the camera didn’t shoot right away, she saw me and turned away. One time I had the camera fixed right on her, waiting for her to turn around. Titing saw me and called her to make her turn my way. When she turned, I pushed the button on the camera, but it didn’t flash, and then it was too late. She turned away and I just gave up after that.
I’m going to have to get a haircut very soon, it’s getting hot again. We were suppose to bring some rice to Poppa today, but that never happened. I started watching TV and Lita said she forgot about it. That’s fine though, we can do it tomorrow. It was so humid today that I had to take a shower. We still haven’t got the new door knob for the bathroom or the pump for the toilet. I’m hoping that that will be accomplished this coming payday. Still no electric bill either.

Last night before we went to bed, Lita was talking about going to Texas this coming May, after we go to Korea. This kind of surprised me, but I told her that if we have the money, it’s fine with me. Actually it’s great with me. She has even already told Cathy that we will be doing that because Cathy will be in charge of the BBQ while we are gone. I guess that when/if Jaclyn, Matt and Wyatt come to visit us in May, we will all go to Korea and then to Texas afterwards. They will be limited on the number of days they have for vacation, I think Jaclyn said 10 days total. They need to count 2 days, minimum just for travel, so I guess we could spend 4 days here, 3 days in Korea and leave an extra day to play with for whatever we want. Maybe stay an extra day here in the Philippines, so they can have a good look around without tiring them out too bad. I would suppose their first day will be spent sleeping most of the time anyway. The reason Lita gave for going about 8 months earlier than planned, is that she wants to sell and/or give away all the stuff we have in storage so we won’t have to pay the $65 per month for that storage unit anymore. Me, well it will be good for me because I want to fill up a few balikbayan boxes to send to myself here. I figure that while we are in Texas, I will get a part time, temporary job at someplace like Subway or Taco Bell. All the money I make from that job, we can use to send the boxes and survive a little better while there. I wanted to go back in January so we could file the income tax while we were there. I don’t make enough money to have to pay taxes, but I guess we are still suppose to file. I assume there is some way to do that in the Internet, so I’ll have to be looking for that pretty soon. I don’t even know where we are going to live while we are there. We don’t really like to stay with anyone else very long so I’ll have to find someplace we can stay for only 3 months. I figure we will stay from around the middle of May until around the middle of August. Man is it going to be hot in Texas during those months.
Since I’m on the subject, and I need to get a few more words out, do y’all think that while we are in Texas, that I should continue to do my posts? I don’t mind doing it, and I’m sure I could use my father’s or sister’s computer, but it wouldn’t be staying with the title of A Texan in the Philippines. It’d be more like A Texan in the Philippines in Texas.

J will be sleeping in LolyKat tonight. I don’t know why he is sleeping here tonight, but it really doesn’t matter to me.
Well that’s all I have for tonight. I figure that the read tonight is not as wonderful as it has been recently, but I sure have had some worst posts before.
Okay, just in case you didn’t notice the oddity in the chores Lita had for me earlier, here it is. She had me turn off the light above the truck. It was suppose to be a brownout until 4:00pm, but at 0730, they were already back on. I guess the rumors of an all day brownout were bogus. I wonder about tomorrow morning, will it be brownout all day then? Guess we’ll have to wait and see, but I’ll know before you do. Let me know if you think I should continue the blog while we are on vacation in Texas.

Public Holiday information on the Philippines would not be complete unless you had a look at the numerous festivals or Fiestas that are so prevalent in the regions and provinces. For more information on Festivals in the Philippines have a look here.
Philippine Regions
The Philippines is divided into 17 different Regions. Those Regions are further separated into 79 provinces and the National Capital Region. You can break it down even further into Cities, then Municipalities and finally Barangays.
For further information on Philippines Regions, have a look here.
Philippines Geography
The Philippines geography is pretty spectacular, where in the world can you explore 7,107 tropical white sand islands? Or maybe trek in the mountains?

Sari Sari Store
The ultimate in convenience is the Sari Sari Store, whether you are after some shampoo, cooking oil, beer, candy for the kids or load for your phone, the Sari Sari Store will have it.
Do not go to a sari sari store if you want to purchase bulk items, Sari Sari Store’s are for singular purchases, the place to go if you want one cigarette, not a packet, just one cigarette.
Cockfighting
Cockfighting in the Philippines could almost be described as a national sport, blood sport perhaps.
All walks of life participate in betting and I’m sure huge burdens are placed on the financial status of local families, particularly in regional areas.
Cockfighting is not for the feint hearted, in most countries it is illegal, but not here in the Philippines!
Salamat, Palaam
Hi UJ, I thought that this post was fine. I still like to read what you have to say. I vote that you should write about Texas while you’re there…
