Last post I told you about having to replace the battery in my backup battery. Battery Search. Well the battery I bought, did not work. It still did it’s “beep-beep-beep” and eventually just quit. So, I brought the battery back downtown the next day, I went straight to the correct place this time. They checked the battery and it was only outputting about 11.5 volts. They replaced it, no problem, and checked it before giving it out this time. It was just over 12 volts, so this one should be good.
I rode down there but walked about ½ way back before I decided to get a trike to ride. It was the hot part of the day and I was already drenched in sweat.
I put the new battery in and it worked. At least for a while it worked. Then it started that “beep-beep-beep” again. Obviously, there is something else wrong with my battery backup.
The next day I go back to Handyman Hardware at Gaisano Mall to get an Audio Video Regulator (AVR), but they cost a lot more than I anticipated. A 2000-watt AVR cost just over P7000. So, I ended up getting nothing, except more exercise.
It wasn’t until after I got home that I started thinking about all the internet cafes that I’ve been to around here. The only thing I remember seeing in those is just surge protectors. No battery backup or AVR necessary. I decided that is just what I’m going to do. No more of that fancy smancy stuff. Go with the best surge protector I can find.
The next day (more exercise) I head back to Handyman. Those surge protectors are in the same aisle as the AVRs. If I would have turned around, I would have seen them. I had a very patient guy helping me. I say patient because I kept looking for a certain size surge protector. I wanted one with not a too short or too long of a cord. It also had to have at least 5 outlets. They had cords of 1.75m, 3m and 5m. The 1.75 is too short (probably) and the 5m is too long. The 3m is good, but there are only 4 outlets on it. There was another brand there, less expensive that fit my needs, but I wasn’t going cheap on my computer. To be safe, I just got the Panther brand 5m (better too long than too short). It has 6 outlets on it and a max capacity of 2500 watts. I don’t know how much I need for my computer, but I’m sure it’s not that much. The listed price was P650, but it must have been on sale because they only charged me P520 after the cashier looked at an advertisement they had posted.

This time I walked a little over half-way home, I’d say about 5/8 of the way, before getting a trike. I was sweating bullets again.
I get home, set it up and it’s good to go. Everything is working great, except for one thing. This whole time, since the first time I went down to get the battery, my internet has been down. Every morning for the past 5 days, no internet. I said morning because the first 2 days, once after calling Globe, the internet was up for part of the day. The last 3 days, nothing.
I’m typing this in Word, waiting on Globe to show up to fix my internet. They are supposed to be here between 8 am and noon. It’s almost 10 as I’m typing this. I had to put a rare load in my phone to contact Globe because my landline is now directly connected to my modem. No internet, no phone. That sucks but, so far, everyone is telling me that there is nothing that can be done about it. I’m going to keep asking though.
