It’s the evening of 4 Nov 2021 when I began this entry. The last entry, Mango Rain Sacks, I was trying to put to the wrong blog. I already had it all typed before I realized my mistake. I just did a copy/paste and moved it to the correct blog. I’m glad there is such thing as copy/paste because that would have been a lot of retyping.
Oh, it’s Daylight Savings Time again in the US. We don’t have that here in the Philippines so I tend to forget about it. It doesn’t really make any sense to me to do it anyway, anymore. I mean back a long time ago before electric lights were well established it was a good thing, but I don’t see the benefit in it anymore. I think I’ll look up why we still have DST. I looked. There are pros and cons but, for me, the cons win out. We should, in my opinion, do away with DST. The Pros and Cons of Daylight Savings Time.
Good morning y’all. It’s 6:00 am, 5 Nov 21. I don’t know why I’m up so early, but I am. Thursday Night Football starts in just over 2 hours but I probably should have stayed in bed for another 1.5 hours. I’m here now. I was hoping for answers on a couple of e-mails I sent out yesterday and the day before but nothing yet. One of them is kind of important so I wish they would respond. Fantasy football teams checked. Now what?
I have to do something today that I’ve never done before. I have to forward some mail back to where it came from. I know the procedure now and will test it out today. I’m also going to be trying to send it COD, which I’ve never done before. I’m sure that it’s going to go over without a hitch (fingers crossed) but that little unknown factor is lingering.
I discovered another expat that has a blog, actually a VLog. He has a much nicer setup than I do. He is from Vermont and lives part time (at least for now) in San Antonio Zambales. I hope you will check out his VLog if that is something you may be interested in: A Vermonter in the Philippines.
Man, one of my fantasy football teams is really cursed this year. All kinds of injuries and my putting in the wrong players. It’s been one thing after another. I’m glad my other team in that same league is doing much better.
5 Nov, 1:45 pm – Raining again. Nening just barely returned from yet another errand before it started raining. She says she has to go again today. I suppose she’ll wait until it stops raining but Filipinos usually do not let a little rain slow them down much.
If you happen to be in the Philippines and have an urge for mixed nuts then please consider ordering through my niece, Grace. She has a fine selection and can ship anywhere in the Philippines. Here is the website and she has prices listed, some are on special because of the holidays: GJG Premium Nuts. It is plus shipping and, from what I understand, if it’s between 1 and 3 kilos, it’s P200 for shipping. She can give you more details by asking her on her website. She usually answers pretty quickly. Ask her about other mixed nuts she may have that are not listed, like salted, roasted pistachios (P1100 per kilo) or P1800 per kilo for pistachios kernel (no shells). If you think of it please mention to her that you were referred by her Uncle John (aka UJ).
As for my trip downtown today for my first mail forwarding and my first COD, that I mentioned in my previous entry, it did not go exactly as planned. I arrived at the LBC office around 8:15 am and got to walk straight up to the window. I told the lady what I wanted to do but they do not accept COD. It was going to cost p145 ($2.90) to send it. Okay, fine. I used my money to send it. There was only 1 short, simple form to fill out and it was pretty done for me except to pay and wait on my receipt. I made 1 other stop, only 1 block away, and then I hailed a trike and headed home. I got back in time to watch some of the Thursday Night Football game, which was pretty boring the way the Jets for playing. I was hoping they’d do better.
Tomorrow (Saturday) is supposed to be the new games day at Mango. It is not going so well though. Not too many guys show up. When they do play these days it’s mostly chess and Scrabble. I can play both, but only average at them. I’d rather play Texan Moon or Texas 42 with dominoes but no one seems to want to learn. I did teach Christian how to play the block game. He good at it now. We usually split about 50-50. It never was my game though, Moon and 42 are. He mentioned that “maybe” he would get a horseshoe or washers pit, but that has not materialized yet. I’m wondering if we are allowed to play basketball there now. I’m no good at basketball but I could use the exercise. He has a half-court built right next to the restaurant. COVID restrictions have disallowed any playing though.
I’m going to end this entry and set it to post tomorrow afternoon. I’ll try to do some interesting things to be able to spice things up a little bit.
Salamat Y’all
Worked great. Hey regarding Grace’s Nut Snacks business. many Americans are totally clueless about the Metric system and resistant to learning. 454 grams is the regular US 16 ounce pound, so her 500 gram packages are a nice “Texas-size” 17.6-ounce pound. Heck of a good deal.
I just received more from her. They get here pretty fast. If you order some let her know I referred you. It won’t get you a discount or anything but it’d be nice for her to know I’m doing some good on the blog. I agree it’s a good deal. I like getting the mixed nuts but they are all good.
Test once again. The site has been not loading for me for a couple of days. Seems to work great now. The P200 charge for shipping anywhere in the Philippines reminds me of one of the good things about living here. Domestic shipping is dirt cheap compared with the USA. And it is typically fast as hell, sometimes overnight from all the way down in Mindanao to central Luzon … for under $4.00 US.
I did have some problems again. It should be all fixed now and back to normal. That’s the good thing about having my host right here. He fixes it fast either online or in person.

Yes it is here. Please check again though to be sure.
